custom_height=&#8221;30&#8243;][vc_column_text]A good dog grooming course will teach you how to interact with your (human) clients.<\/p>\n<p>That said, no matter how well you\u2019re prepared, every business owner is bound to encounter a few \u201cChoosing Beggars\u201d or \u201cKarens\u201d in their careers.\u00a0 These customers just can NOT be pleased no matter what you do.\u00a0 Though these clients are rare, you can usually tell by these typical behaviors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They ask for discounts or for free services because \u201cyou charge too much\u201d \/ \u201cSuzy down the street offers the same services for cheaper\u201d \/ \u201cthey\u2019re doing you a favor by allowing you to practice on their dog\u201d \/ \u201cother reasons\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>They have unrealistic expectations and don\u2019t take kindly to being told that what they want Just. Isn\u2019t. Possible.<\/li>\n<li>They expect you to fall over yourself and do everything humanely impossible to please them because \u201cyou work for them\u201d (whether they intend on paying you for your work or not).<\/li>\n<li>They <em>lose their mind<\/em> if you dare to ask for a deposit.<\/li>\n<li>They resort to insulting you personally or leaving horrible (and exaggerated\/untrue) reviews of your business if they\u2019re displeased in any way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]A lot of professionals will go way above and beyond for this type of client because they can\u2019t bear the thought of displeasing a paying client or seeing a bad review of their business. But the truth of the matter is, you\u2019ll <em>never<\/em> be able to please this type of client and doing so can hurt your business more than their bad review ever will.\u00a0 Instead, focus on setting healthy boundaries with terrible clients and learn how to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doggroomingcourse.com\/2019\/03\/how-to-handle-bad-reviews-for-your-dog-grooming-business\/\">respond to bad reviews<\/a> in a professional manner.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is, people are becoming savvier at identifying and calling out these impossible clients. It\u2019s more challenging than you think it\u2019ll be! Some scenarios you\u2019re likely to encounter:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The terrified dog who wants to bite your face when you get within 3 feet of her<\/li>\n<li>The overly-friendly dog who wants to tackle you to the ground and lick your face when you get within 3 feet of him (i.e. my puppy)<\/li>\n<li>The dog who hates all other dogs and becomes Cujo when another dog is in her field of vision<\/li>\n<li>The dog who loves all other dogs and <em>screams<\/em> until he\u2019s allowed to play with them (i.e. my puppy)<\/li>\n<li>The water-lover who refuses to get out of the tub<\/li>\n<li>The water-hater who refuses to get into the tub<\/li>\n<li>The dog who\u2019s perfectly fine until you dare to touch her feet<\/li>\n<li>The pup who\u2019s perfectly fine until you dare to touch his ears<\/li>\n<li>The explosive diarrhea<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You get the idea.<\/p>\n<p>Dogs have so many personalities and quirks. And fact is, for a groomer, an overly-friendly Labrador can be just as much of a pain to groom as a reactive Golden Retriever.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is, when you\u2019re just starting out, you can usually find enough clients who have well-behaved dogs that are used to being groomed. \u00a0Don\u2019t be afraid of being selective with your first few clients and screening out the difficult cases! Starting out on \u201ceasier\u201d dogs can allow you to master your craft before you start working on more challenging pooches.<\/p>\n<p>And when you do find yourself working with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doggroomingcourse.com\/2018\/06\/how-to-deal-with-difficult-dogs-and-difficult-owners-pt-2\/\">difficult canine<\/a>, remember this: <strong><em>Dogs are living beings with feelings<\/em><\/strong>. You\u2019re not doing a dog (or yourself) <em>any<\/em> favor by \u201cpowering through it\u201d. If they\u2019re scared, nervous, overwhelmed or otherwise being difficult, your best option is to stay completely calm and slow down or take a break. This training is based on business best practices that have been tried and tested.\u00a0 But once you run your own business, you start to learn that some \u201cbest practices\u201d might just not work for your own business.<\/p>\n<p>Now I have yet to see a business who <em>doesn\u2019t<\/em> benefit from, say, having a website. But when it comes to setting your prices, for example, or actually <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.doggroomingcourse.com\/2017\/04\/marketing-your-dog-grooming-services\/\">marketing your business<\/a><\/em>, it\u2019s very likely that not every strategy that\u2019s recommended in your course will be a hit with your particular business.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe your business is located in a very conservative area and you have to be extremely careful about your social media use.\u00a0 Maybe your target audience skews much older and you actually <em>do<\/em> benefit from advertising in newspapers even though we\u2019d never advise it as a viable marketing strategy in QC\u2019s online dog grooming course.
